Using your gardening analogy, there's something to be said for tending our own garden. Rather than look for greener pastures, we might do well to water our own? You didn't say this in your article, but I think sometimes people fall into a rut of their own making. We think other people have it better, are having more fun, or generally enjoying life more than we are. In truth, they might be just as miserable as us, and although I think advice like happiness is a choice feels a bit trite, there may be something to it. Shake things up. Dye your hair, take a trip out of town, and change your names. Pretend to meet each other at a bar and enjoy kinky sex. Hey, you'll never know unless you try it, right? And, if after all that, you feel as though the relationship is still floundering, then it might be worth looking at dividing the garden and looking for different soil. I'm not advocating we settle. I'm saying we do what we can to cultivate before turning our efforts to a new patch. Sometimes, life is not as wildly exciting for other people as we think it might be. But, no, don't get married if you're not mostly on board.
